My introduction to yoga was doing poses with my mother in middle and high school. I could rarely keep up with her for the whole 90 minutes, despite the fact that I was athletic (swimming, rowing). I was always amazed by her stamina and how the benefit seemed to transcend the strength one gains from practicing asanas (physical postures).

When I went to college I stopped practicing but then picked it up again one summer when I was volunteering and living in the foothills of the Himalayas, in a mountain town called Dharamshala. As part of an amazing spiritual experience I had there overall, I found myself practicing yoga again with a dear friend.

As things often go in life, I stopped practicing again after a while. Then suddenly, this year, I found my way back to it again. And this time, I experienced healing benefits and gained physical and mental strength that I never thought was possible. But it is.

This is not to say that yoga is some magic solution to all problems; it absolutely is not. But it really can transform your life if you make space for it.

Yoga comes from yuj in Sanskrit which means "to yoke or unite". Yoga is about uniting mind, body and spirit. I invite you to join me on this journey to learn more about and deepen our connection with ourselves and others.
